Montreal, QC – August 8, 2017 – Veritas IRB is proud to announce that it has been approved by the Ministry of Health in Saskatchewan to perform research ethics review in the province.

According to the Ministry of Health’s order No. 2017-06 of May 2, 2017, Veritas IRB has specifically been approved as a Research Ethics Committee for the purposes of Section 29 of the Health Information Protection Act (Saskatchewan). Under Section 29 of the Act, “a trustee or a designated archive may use or disclose personal health information for research purposes with the express consent of the subject individual if the research project has been approved by a research ethics committee approved by the minister”. With this approval, Veritas IRB will be able to offer sponsors of research a broader geographical scope of its ethics review services for Canadian multicentre research. Independent researchers based in Saskatchewan will also be able to benefit from Veritas IRB’s weekly meetings and ad hoc reviews for minimal risk research.

“We are honoured to be chosen as a Research Ethics Board to serve the research community in Saskatchewan”, said Janice Parente, President of Veritas IRB. “This is an important improvement for sponsors of multicentre research as they can now rely on a single ethics review process for a greater number of Canadian provinces. For our company, Saskatchewan’s approval is recognition of the superior work and ethics that Veritas IRB embodies. With our continuous strive for excellence and pursuit for the highest ethical standards in clinical research, we are pleased to service the Saskatchewan research community with sound and exceptional research services.”

Veritas IRB is the first and only Canadian-owned accredited central IRB. Veritas IRB is the only central IRB to offer ethics review services in English and French in the following Canadian provinces and territories; British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon.
